Who We Are
Mission: To protect and preserve the maritime history of Marquette, Lake Superior, and all the Great Lakes, and to remember our submarine veterans.
The Museum, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, opened in the old City Waterworks building in June of 1984. The Marquette Maritime Museum is one of the best-kept secrets in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The Museum features exhibits on shipwrecks in Marquette and Lake Superior, Early Life-Saving and US Coast Guard, the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Henry B. Smith, and a 3-D Breeches Buoy Exhibition. We also have one of the largest collections of Fresnel lenses on the Great Lakes.
Marquette Maritime Museum and Marquette Harbor Lighthouse are open MAY 13 through OCTOBER 9.
What We Do
Marquette Maritime Museum and Marquette Harbor Lighthouse are looking for volunteers to give interpretive tours of the Lighthouse as well as tours of the Maritime Museum, which focuses on the history of Marquette, Lake Superior, and the Great Lakes.
We are proud of the education we provide to area schools in the form of free field trips to the Museum and Lighthouse and free children’s art/history workshops. We also offer a winter lecture series, Maritime History on Tap, at the Ore Dock Brewing Company and yearly events such as a Lake Superior Day and Ghosts of Lighthouse Point fundraiser.
