Who We Are

Mission: To oppose actions that may jeopardize these resources and encouraging community efforts to preserve the quality of life provided by the Lake Superior coastline for future generations.

Citizens for a Safe & Clean Lake Superior (CSCLS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and improving the environmental resources of Lake Superior’s coastal habitat, shoreline, and freshwater in Marquette County.

What We Do

CSCLS engages in various activities to fulfill its mission, such as community organizing, raising public awareness, assisting with environmental projects, public speaking, writing letters to public officials, and participating in public meetings to provide comments.

In recent years, CSCLS has focused on advocating for wetland protection, recognizing the vital ecosystem services wetlands provide, including water filtration, flood mitigation, and critical wildlife habitat. They have worked to raise local awareness of the causes and impacts of wetland destruction on Lake Superior and have been involved in efforts to strengthen local ordinances to protect wetland areas.

Through these initiatives, CSCLS aims to ensure the preservation and enhancement of Lake Superior’s unique natural assets for the benefit of current and future generations.
