AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking for compassionate, friendly people to join our team of local volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide is a free program that makes it easier for older, low-income taxpayers to file their tax returns and get the credits and deductions they’ve earned. Neighbors like you help prepare tax returns or serve in other ways, like organizing client paperwork, managing computer equipment, acting as interpreters, or making sure everything runs smoothly. There’s a role for everyone.
In 2022, Michigan AARP Foundation Tax Aide volunteers prepared 28,980 tax returns resulting in $19.7 million in refunds for Michigan taxpayers. The average gross income of the taxpayers we assisted was $26,065.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax assistance and preparation service. Our mission is to provide free tax assistance to those who need us, with special emphasis on elderly and low to moderate income taxpayers. Since 1968, more than 26,00 AARP Foundation volunteers have provided tax assistance to more than 75 million older taxpayers.
Various volunteer positions are available locally in Ishpeming, Marquette, and Negaunee, with flexible volunteer schedules. Whatever your skill set, there's a role for you!
We have a variety of volunteer positions available, including Administrative, Technology, Leadership, Facilitators as well as Tax Counselors. As a Tax-Aide volunteer, you’ll receive training and support with IRS-certification, learn new skills, and connect with people in your community while giving back.
