Volunteer Opportunities From: United Way of Marquette County/ Yoopers United

Volunteer: Hospice Volunteer - Office, Bedside, Events & More!

Hospice Volunteers are an essential part of the Lake Superior Hospice team. Volunteers help us carry out our mission in many ways, from helping in the office or events and fundraising, to helping the people we serve who are facing a life-limiting illness. Our volunteers can choose to help in many different capacities. Some of the services our volunteers currently provide include office assistance, gardening, respite care, reading to patients, friendly visits, veteran-to-veteran, helping patients and families with basic day-to-day tasks and many other things.  Volunteers are paired with an opportunity that fits their comfort level and the talents they hope to use while being a hospice volunteer.

Volunteer: Companion Volunteers

Companion Volunteers work to provide support directly to patients and families. To ensure that all volunteers are equipped for the challenge of working with those dealing with a life limiting illness, we require that volunteers complete orientation and training sessions. It’s important that volunteers understand the philosophy of hospice and are aware of the specific ways we work to serve the community. Volunteers spend their visits being present, listening, helping with errands or light household tasks or providing short respite opportunities for caregivers.

Volunteer: Can/ bottle returns - we have the cans and need them returned!

Local businesses donate their returnable cans to United Way with all proceeds staying right here in Marquette county to help our local neighbors in need throughout the county.  This need would involve going to the business to get the cans from their storage area and returning them.  Masks and gloves can be provided if requested. The quantity of cans all depends on how often they are returned and how much these employees drink!  On average, there would be about $10-15/week.

Contact the United Way office at 906-226-8171 to set up a time that works for you and you will be directed to the business that needs to be collected and what you need to do.
