Who We Are
Mission: To provide counseling, education, and advocating for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
The Women’s Center (WC) was established in 1973 and became a private non-profit in 1980. Its focus centered on empowering women, providing support groups for women with addiction, and support for domestic and sexual violence. It is the oldest nonprofit, nongovernmental victim’s services organization in Michigan and one of the oldest in the United States. It is currently the only domestic violence and sexual assault agency in Alger and Marquette Counties. It has served those in Marquette County for over forty-one years and those in Alger County for twenty-four years.
What We Do
We are the sole domestic and sexual violence agency in the Marquette County. We run a 24/7 crisis support line and an emergency shelter as well as outreach services for all genders: Male, Female, Transgender. Married, separated, or divorced, dating, have a child in common, living together / intimate partners, opposite or same gender relationships. Our services are free and confidential. We provide supportive, legal, housing, medical and basic advocacy, and personal protective orders. We have a LMSW for sexual trauma therapy and two LLMSW’s for DV therapy. We work on systems change in our community. We have offices in Marquette, Gwinn, and Ishpeming. We serve many children.
