On Friday evening (6-9pm) and Saturdays (11-2pm) during January and February, we have public sliding. We use reservations because we have a limit to the number of sliders we can effectively help in one session. When folks arrive, we need a person to help please by checking off the guests from the reservation list, and then matching them with a helmet and cleats for their size. When the guests are done, you put the helmet and cleats back on their shelves (and spray sanitizer on the helmets).
This is done at the small chalet building (not on the ice), with time mostly spent outdoors. There is usually a bonfire nearby to warm up for cold days. There are other volunteers who then teach the actual luge sliding, which goes right past the chalet so there is good opportunity to view the action and talk to people.
This is a great role for you if you enjoy being outdoors and around people, but want a volunteer role that is light duty (not much exercise nor heavy carrying). You don't need to be available every weekend - we are happy to schedule with you for dates where you can help.
